Patients have noticed Dr. Mascherin’s
telescopic glasses with attached light. Many patients wonder what
purpose these special glasses serve. The glasses contain magnification
lenses which magnify images 3.5 times the normal size. This allows
Dr. Mascherin to see much more detail than she could without the
glasses! The attached light greatly enhances visibility into the
dark recesses of the oral cavity. They function as an invaluable
tool in proper diagnosis and treatment.
Several companies specialize in producing
these precise instruments. The lenses vary greatly in the level
of magnification and can be tailored to accommodate a Doctors’
specific needs.
Performing high quality dentistry is an
extremely challenging endeavor. Achieving excellent visibility and
access to treatment sites inside the mouth can be extremely difficult
and sometimes next to impossible. How much easier would diagnosis
and treatment be if Dr. Mascherin could hold the teeth in her hand
in a dry environment with excellent lighting! Magnification and
a direct light source are the solution to maximizing the precision
of our dental work and the quality of our diagnosis.
Enhanced visibility allows the doctor
to see treatment sites more easily and thus reduces the actual time
needed for treatment. This is of particular benefit to patients
undergoing surgery or extensive restorative work, as prolonged procedure
time can contribute to postoperative discomfort, swelling, and difficulty
in recovery.
Being able to see fine detail with magnification
and excellent lighting allows us to finely contour and finish our
restorations. The ability to perfect restorations at close to microscopic
level maximizes esthetic appearance and provides better fitting,
longer lasting restorations.
Our goal is to use this technology to
be able to diagnose dental and periodontal disorders at the earliest
stages so that the solutions we can offer are as simple as possible.
Cavities, tooth fractures, and other oral disorders may go unrecognized
without the use of magnification. Once problems are diagnosed we
can then perform needed treatment with a high level of precision
and efficiency.
